I am realizing how far behind I am with my September updates, by scrolling through the photos and planning the upcoming posts. Wow! There has been a lot happening in a very short time hence, get ready for a blogging avalanche packed with Holiday photos (including travel tips in Tuscany), design trends from the Helsinki’s Habitare fair and finally Callwey ‘Botanical Gardens’ event in Munich followed by our book launch Party! Sounds exciting? It surely was for me, in fact I’m still flying on cloud9!
So where do I start? Since it’s Monday I figured a Holiday post would be the best option. Would you agree?
At the beginning of September we escaped for a few days to my favourite region in Italy – Tuscany. One thing you might not know about me is that my great, grandmother was Italian (originally from Carrara) what could possibly explain my great love for the the Tuscan green hills, good wine and the extraordinary atmosphere. Genes don’t lie!
There is a lot to see and do in Tuscany, the difficulty is where to start but that very much depends on what you are looking for. The main cities to see are of course Florence, Siena and Pisa but those are the places you can easily find information about in every travel guide. What I want to show you today is a small, yet extremely beautiful spot – not many people have heard of.
Scarlino – a town located at the top of the mountain with welcoming atmosphere, breathtaking views, cute stone houses and beautiful coast at the hill’s feet, I think it’s amazing that it isn’t popular! It surely is a place to experience authentic Tuscan living and…enjoy local food and simply relax. Also, If you are bringing a dog with you – there is no other place in Italy, where our 4-legged friends are more welcome!
What to do in Scarlino:
1. You have to experience Scarlino town during the golden hour – Tuscan hills never look as good as just before the sun sets, so make sure to get on top of the mountain around 6pm to admire the breathtaking sunset and shadow play.
2. Dine with a view – since Scarlino is located on top of the mountain, there are plenty of restaurants and bars, offering not only amazing food and local wine but also amazing (free) view!
3. Enjoy the never-ending, wide, sandy beaches (Cala Violina and around) – one of the things I appreciate when it comes to beach-life is the freedom and space, which is quite rare in most of the italian resorts (think Liguria!). Marina do Scarlino on the other hand is totally opposite – no matter which beach you choose, you can be sure to have a bit of privacy. Plus they are truly stunning!
If you are wondering if what you see above is a nutella pizza – yes it is! Heaven on Earth, I’m telling you. We’ve had truly amazing time in this cute town and I can’t wait to be back. My next travel was to Habitare fair in Helsinki, which I am going to talk about in tomorrow’s post.
