Milan Design Week: Top 8 Interior Trends in 2017

There is no better way to get the idea of what’s trending in the world of interiors than visiting the most important design fair, right? I have to say Milan Design Week – Salon del Mobile and Fuorisalone are my number 1 source of inspiration and a favourite place to spot some of the hottest trends, motifs, and tendencies.

While roaming the fair and the events I get blown away by design concepts, stylings and creativity, then I try to process all what I’ve seen and show you the highlights (not always easy!) Today I have rounded up Top 8 trends in 2017 so you can see what’s hot in interior design right now. Ready? Have a look!

1/ Dusty, Blush Pink – it was definitely the most visible shade at this year’s Milan’s Design week. From walls to new products, tiles and showroom’s colors, Milan turned pink for a week. A real treat for someone who loves soft tones! The shade is sweet yet mature, perfect to pair with darker or earthy tones to create balanced looks.

2/ More Textures – spotted: antiqued, scratched, rough surfaces in all the possible forms. Think of brushed brass, textured walls, aged mirrors – we could see great variety this year!

3/ Fun, Mobile Lighting – from chandeliers to simple fixtures, lighting is not any more just a light source but a great accessory and a perfect way to show your style. If you are considering to get a new lamp for your dining room, make sure it’s a show stopper!

4/ Colored glass – I was never a big fan of colored glass until I saw the variety of beautiful designs this year. Lamp, vases or an added mirror glass, murano-style colored glass is on trend right now.

5/ Experimental design with volcanic rocks – I know some of the design studios are experimenting with natural stones for a while, however the products with actual volcanic elements appeared in the market only this year. Lava tables, mirrors and a lot of experimenting going on behind the scenes – interesting concept, that’s for sure.

6/ Artisian designs – from independent artists to big brands adopting a ‘handmade’ style, the power of craftsmanship is back.

7/ Total white – seems like white is trending not only in Scandinavia! During Salone del Mobile many installations and showrooms were  dedicated to total white experience, such as ‘White in the City’. White represents simplicity, light and minimalism. If you like the luminous, white style – now is the time to show it.

8/ Velvet – the retro chic material is definitely experiencing a big come back – from seating finishes to curtains and small details.

What do you think of the latest tendencies? Would you introduce them in your own home? Any particular trend that you like? My favourite include: dusty pink, textures, totalwhite and mobile lighting.
